General & Dosage
Over 200 mushroom species around the world produce psilocybin. It is a naturally occurring prodrug, which is a biologically inactive compound that the body can metabolize to produce a mental or physiological effect.
Some mushroom species are more potent than others, such as P. azurescens, P. semilanceata, and P. cyanescens, but psilocybin has also been isolated from about a dozen other genera. In addition to the species, a mushroom’s psilocybin potency also depends on:
- Origin
- Growing conditions
- Harvest period
- Whether consumed fresh or dried.
Drying mushrooms in a safe, controlled environment also yields a higher active psilocybin ingredient.
Being a prodrug, psilocybin converts to psilocin after you consume it. Psilocin is what produces the mind-altering—or ‘mind-expanding’—effect that people experience after dosing. The effects will vary depending on a few factors, including the quantity and quality of the product and a person’s mental state and setting (otherwise known as set and setting).
In general, the effects people experience may include euphoria, visual and mental hallucinations, changes in perception, distorted sense of time and spiritual awakening. In some cases, people may also experience adverse effects, such as nausea, panic attacks or paranoia. These effects, of course, depend on the factors just mentioned.
Microdosing involves consuming tiny amounts of psilocybin at a time. Not enough to feel high or ‘trip’ as some would say, but just enough to help someone feel something.
Microdosing psilocybin generally helps people feel happier, more creative, focused and present. People are still able to go about their normal day with ease when they microdose. For some, it can make their day feel easier emotionally or physically.
People microdose on schedules or sometimes for specific events. For example, if they need a boost of creativity to solve a problem, energy to get through the day or focus to finish off that never-ending to do list. Some people use microdosing as an emotional-aid to alleviate symptoms of depression, anxiety or even PTSD.
People microdose for many different reasons—to feel happier, enhance their focus or creativity or alleviate symptoms of depression or anxiety. Some people microdose to help wean themselves off of an alcohol or drug addiction or anti-depressants.
Whatever the reason may be, it is important to know what yours is and stay mindful of it, whether you are a new or seasoned microdoser. Think of your reason as your guide to self-awareness. It will help you understand how you are healing or improving and increase the likelihood of having a more meaningful experience.

A common psilocybin microdose is 0.1 mg. Seasoned microdosers may take higher amounts up to 0.3 mg.
All of our blends have 0.1 mg of precisely measured psilocybin in each microdose so you don’t have to worry. If you are wanting to take a higher microdose, let us know and we can help.
Absolutely. The amount in a single microdose is not enough to make someone feel high or spark a visual trip. People are still able to go about their daily routines with ease when they microdose. For some, it can make their daily routines feel easier emotionally or physically.
For those new to microdosing—give yourself a day or two to see how you respond to the microdose before jumping back into your normal routine.
Microdoses are most effective when taken on a schedule to prevent tolerance build up. It is also possible to feel the effects of a single microdose after the second or even third day of taking it, so a microdose every day is not needed.
To keep the psilocybin buzz sustainable, try microdosing 2 to 3 times per week with two days between microdoses. If that is not meeting your needs—it is completely normal to adopt a schedule that works best for you. Some other, more common schedules are:
- 1 microdose per day for 4 days followed by a 3 day break
- 1 microdose per day for 5 days followed by a 2 day break
- 1 microdose followed by a 2 day break, repeat.
New microdosers are encouraged to take their first and second microdoses on days with an open schedule and minimal responsibility. This is to help them safely gauge how they are responding to the microdose. As they feel comfortable—they can start microdosing on a schedule that works best for them.
Good things come in small doses—and in moderation. The same rule applies for micirodosing psilocybin for a few different reasons. Microdosing every day can lead to building up a tolerance to psilocybin for one. And two—it’s possible that you may still feel the positive effects of a microdose up to two days after you have taken it.
The best thing to do is take mental notes about how you feel after each microdose and during your breaks. This will also help you determine a schedule that works best for you and your needs.
The best time to microdose is in the morning or shortly after you wake up. This is so you experience the beneficial effects throughout the day and avoid them interfering with sleep.
This is like the age-old debate between the people who eat breakfast and those who do not. It all comes down to personal preference and experience. If you decide to eat with your microdose, eat within a short time frame either before or after you microdose.
A word of caution–microdosing on an empty stomach can sometimes lead to nausea or upset stomach for some people. If this happens to you, eating can help alleviate it.
How do you take your microdose? Let us know!
It can take up to 45 minutes to start feeling the effects of a microdose. Some people may feel the effects sooner depending on their age, body mass, metabolic rate and other factors. Consuming a microdose with food can also delay feeling the effects.
When the microdose starts to kick in, you may begin to feel happier, more focused, creative and aware or present in your surroundings.
Microdosing can bring a wealth of mental wellness benefits. What is more important—however—is understanding the benefit you are seeking. When you are mindful of this, you are better able to see how you are improving or healing. Chances are it will also lead to a more meaningful experience.
If you have given yourself more than 45 minutes and you do not feel anything, there could be something interfering with psilocybin. For example, some medications do not play well with psilocybin, such as SSRIs, MAOIs and other antidepressants.
Nootropics are a wide range of artificial and natural compounds thought to enhance cognitive function. All of the nootropics we use are natural and grown or sourced locally within Canada.
The more common natural nootropics, which you will see within our blends, include Bacoupa, Lion’s Maine, Lemon Balm and Ginkgo Biloba, Gotu Kola and Reishi. They each bring their own mental or physiological benefits, from improved memory retention and mood to increased mental clarity, alertness and energy.
Each of our blends contain a unique ‘stack’ of organic plant nootropics that complement psilocybin. The microdoses are precisely measured and well within recommended daily dosage ranges. Shop our bends.
All of our ingredients are organically grown or sourced locally within Canada.
Psilocybin can interact with medications such as SSRIs, MAOIs and other antidepressants. It can also interact with acids such as lemon juice. This is not an exhaustive list, however. If you are currently taking a medication or substance, make sure to do some additional research before combining it with psilocybin.
Based on a the 2020 Global Drug Survey of over 110,000 people from 25 different countries, psilocybin mushrooms were ranked as the least likely to result in emergency attention—less than Cannabis and MDMA.
Psilocybin in tiny microdoses is not enough to make someone feel high or embark on a visual trip. It is just enough to help someone elevate their mental state or wellbeing.
All of our microdosing blends contain 0.1 mg of Canadian-grown, Texas Yellow Cap Mushrooms. It is a Psilocybe Cubensis strain that dates back to 1998 when it was developed by an amateur mycologist in the community. Don’t let the word ‘amateur’ deter you, however. The Texas Yellow Cap strain is one of the most widely available and popular mushroom strains on the market today.
Other popular mushroom strains part of the P. Cubensis family include Golden Teachers, B+, Penis Envy Mushrooms and Pink Buffalo.
